Dr. Simon Nigen, MD, BPharm, FRCPC
Dr. Simon Nigen earned his Doctor of Medicine from the Université de Montréal after completing a Bachelor of Pharmacy in 1993. He subsequently completed his dermatology residency at Université Laval in Québec City, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship in cutaneous adverse drug reactions (toxicodermas) and clinical pharmacology at the University of Toronto.
Dr. Nigen currently practices at Verdun Hospital, where he also directs the Sima Research Clinical Dermatology Research Centre. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the Université de Montréal and serves as Chief of the Department of Dermatology at Verdun Hospital. He also practices at the Montreal General Hospital, where he leads the Contact Dermatitis Clinic, and is a Clinical Assistant Professor at McGill University.
He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Eczema Society of Canada. Throughout his career, Dr. Nigen has also served as Secretary-Treasurer of the Montreal Dermatological Society, Director on the Board of the Canadian Dermatology Association, member of the examination committee for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and Director of the Cutaneous Allergy Clinic (patch testing) at Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital. He is also an active member of numerous national and international professional societies.
A clinical investigator since 2003, Dr. Nigen has participated in numerous clinical research projects and has authored more than 50 scientific publications.
His principal areas of interest include psoriasis, atopic dermatitis (eczema), urticaria, contact dermatitis, cutaneous allergies, skin oncology, acne, and photodynamic therapy. He has led numerous clinical trials across a broad range of dermatologic conditions, including psoriasis, urticaria, atopic dermatitis, alopecia areata, acne vulgaris, skin aging, scar management, seborrheic dermatitis, onychomycosis, and photosensitivity.
